Choreographer Liv O'Donoghue and I have been collaborating for the past year on various dance, film and photography projects. We first met when Liv needed some last minute press shots. We had a hour of studio space to get photos of two separate pieces. In that short time, we quickly realised that we shared a similar aesthetic sensibility and from there our working relationship grew.
With the intention to find the two different but akin artistic expressions of photography and dancing, we started to work together realising pictures, posters, advertising material and film for Liv's performances: TEN (Dublin Dance Festival 2011), This woman I met (Southbank Centre, London), The way we met (Bealtaine Festival, DMJ International Video Dance Festival, Japan), Prompted Breathless (Hawk's Well Theatre, Sligo) and Once, removed (I.F. O.N.L.Y. Festival, Birr). Alongside this, we began to discuss ideas for projects in which we could further research our collaborative creative practice. In 2012, we plan to go to Iceland to create an art film researching the idea of what happens when you put the dancer in another environment and how the body might respond creatively differently... This duet was created as part of a research grant from the Arts Council. It was performed as part of New Movements at Dance House and as part of the Dublin Dance Festival 2011.

This woman I met
This solo work was created in 2009 and was performed as part of the Dublin Dance Festival as was toured with Material Sequence Dance Company as part of the repertoire in Sweden. In 2011, the work was selected to represent Ireland at the DancEUnion Festival at the Southbank Centre London.

Liv was commissioned to create a new work on a quartet of dancers. Prompted Breathless premiered on October 21st and I was heavily involved in building the marketing material for this work. From the promo trailer to the design, we worked collaboratively on everything.

THE WAY WE MET
Liv was selected to be the Dancer-in-Residence at the Hawk's Well Theatre Sligo. For this, she created a new work for the Bealtaine Festival, with a mixture of professional dancers and members of the local Active Age community. In order to access as many people as possible, we decided to create a film in which we travelled all over the county, meeting with people, hearing their stories and ideas of dance, and filming the beautiful landscape of Sligo. We then created two separate versions of the film, one documentary which has been selected as part of the DMJ Video Dance Festival in Japan, and one film which was part of the live performance which Liv choreographed in May.
